The Part 1 question will be an essay on a given topic

If you don’t have paragraphs, you will get band 5 for Coherence and Cohesion, which is 25% of your marks in task 2 (this also applies to task 1). You MUST use logical paragraphs and use linking devices well to get a high score. In fact, you must have done very well in task 1 and also in the other aspects of writing task 2 to have got band 7 overall. I can’t say if it will certainly raise your score as it will all depend on your performance on the day. The fact that you don’t seem to be aware of what the examiner is looking for and how your writing is scored suggests that you are taking risks for the writing component of the test. Seriously consider getting at least one of my advanced lessons to open your eyes to the techniques you need to use and the skills you need to show in your essay writing: . Firstly, I want to thank you for putting up this website. I will be taking my exam this May and I find your website very useful and easy to understand. I do have a question on the introduction of the model essay, I’m confused as when to use however in a sentence. I know it is a linking word used to contrast but from the paragraph above, is it applicable to use however? In my understanding, however is used to disagree with the first statement which is “Social networking sites, for instance Facebook, are thought by some to have had…” In this case disagreeing with it means that your opinion is that you don’t agree with the first sentence but at the end of the paragraph, you stated that you are agreeing with the statement. Shouldn’t we omit the word however instead?

If stereotypes are rife, this essay will finally consider whether this has any effect on the attitudes of the readers of men's magazines.

It is not about examiners understanding. It is about showing a range of vocabulary. If you pack an essay with high level medical words, but the rest of your vocabulary is only average – the examiner will easily see you do NOT have a wide range of words. The examiner will see you are a doctor and your vocabulary is limited to medical English. This means your vocabulary score will not increase. You can’t cheat IELTS. You need to show a range of vocabulary from all topics – not only medical language. So, don’t full your essay with medical vocab – it won’t help.

For opinion essay, can we talk about both?, what if i have both feeling? or should i clearly stand to my points inclining one side only?

No, it is asking you to give your opinion. Your whole essay will explain your opinion. It is not a discussion essay. In the essay above, it is asking if you agree that Facebook has a negative impact on individuals and society. So, this question contains two aspects to give your opinion about: individuals and also society.
